The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, over the alleged poisoning of her tenant’s three-year-old son in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect, who was identified as the landlady of the child’s mother, was accused of forcing a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous into the mouth of the toddler, Abdulrasheed, during a dispute.

The incident was said to have occurred on February 5, 2026, at their residence in the Omifon community.

The victim’s mother, Rofiyat, reportedly rushed to the Odigbo Police Division to lodge a complaint after noticing her son’s condition.

Confirming the arrest on Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said detectives swiftly moved into action and apprehended the suspect.

He disclosed that the liquid substance allegedly administered to the child was recovered during the operation, adding that the suspect was currently in custody and making useful statements to investigators.

Jimoh said the toddler was immediately taken to a hospital, where he is receiving medical attention after experiencing repeated vomiting.

According to the police spokesman, preliminary findings revealed that the alleged act followed a misunderstanding between the suspect and the victim’s mother.

He added that investigations were ongoing and that the case would be charged to court upon completion of the probe.
