Wike threatens STDD boss with sack over refuse dumps

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has issued a stern warning to the Coordinator of the Satellite Towns Development Department, Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, over the failure to evacuate refuse heaps in parts of the FCT, threatening to terminate his appointment if the situation persists.

Wike handed down the ultimatum on Friday during an inspection tour of ongoing infrastructure projects in several satellite towns, including Karshi, Bwari and Kubwa.

The inspection, aimed at assessing the implementation of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the nation’s capital, took a dramatic turn when the minister observed a large refuse dump along the Orozo–Karshi Road.

Visibly displeased, Wike condemned the negligence and warned that the administration would no longer tolerate lapses in environmental sanitation or project supervision.

He declared that any official found wanting in their responsibilities by Monday would face immediate sanctions, including dismissal, stressing that infrastructure development must go hand in hand with a clean and healthy environment.

The minister added that any failure in refuse management across Karshi, Bwari or other satellite towns would be decisively addressed, noting that inefficiency and delays would not be excused.

Despite the warning, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace of work on several road projects, particularly in Karshi.

He also addressed the long-delayed Apo–Karshi Road project, which has caused hardship for commuters for more than a decade.

According to him, the government had revoked the previous contract and reassigned the project to SCC Construction Company due to its strategic importance, adding that construction work had commenced in earnest.

Another major project inspected was the 17-kilometre Bwari–Kubwa Road, which Wike described as a critical infrastructure that would boost economic activities and ease movement between the two major communities.

He announced that the Bwari–Kubwa Road is scheduled for completion by May 3, 2026, while directing that landscaping and environmental enhancement works be concluded before the end of the year to improve the overall outlook of the corridor.
