A 30-year-old man has died in Kano State after he reportedly entered a well in an attempt to retrieve a burning gas cylinder.

The incident occurred on Sunday at Saulawa Quarters in Gwarzo town, Gwarzo Local Government Area.

The Kano State Fire Service confirmed the development in a statement issued on Monday by its Public Relations Officer, Saminu Yusif Abdullahi.

According to the statement, the Gwarzo Fire Service received a distress call from a resident, Alhaji Dan Dauda Gwarzo, who reported that a man had gone down a well.

The victim, identified as Ashahabu Ubale, was said to have entered the well after a gas cylinder, which was already on fire, was thrown inside.

The Fire Service explained that gas fumes trapped inside the well led to oxygen depletion, causing the man to suffocate.

An emergency response team from the Gwarzo Fire Service branch was immediately dispatched to the scene and succeeded in bringing the victim out of the well.

However, Ubale was rescued unconscious and was later confirmed dead.

The body was subsequently handed over to a police officer from the Gwarzo Police Division for further necessary action.

The Kano State Fire Service cautioned members of the public against venturing into wells and other hazardous areas without proper safety equipment, warning that such actions could have fatal consequences.
