‘It was a mistake’ – ADC chairman apologises over rejection of committees

The Chairman of the African Democratic Congress in Borno State, Umar Bolori, has apologised for rejecting the party’s transitional and registration committees, admitting that his earlier position was a mistake.

Bolori tendered the apology during a press briefing in Maiduguri on Tuesday evening.

The development comes weeks after the state chapter distanced itself from the Transitional and Registration Committees reportedly constituted by a party chieftain, Kashim Imam.

On January 12, 2026, Bolori had addressed party leaders and members, alleging misconduct and irreconcilable differences, and dismissing the committees as attempts to infiltrate the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.

However, speaking on Tuesday, the state chairman said he was setting the record straight and expressed regret over his earlier comments.

“I am here to set some records straight in our great party, ADC in Borno State.

“You may recall that on January 12, 2026, I addressed our party’s national leaders, state stakeholders and members on certain allegations and differences,” he said.

Bolori acknowledged that his previous action was an error and extended an apology to Imam and the party’s national leadership.

He also formally recognised the legitimacy of the committees.

“On this note, we officially recognise and accept the inaugurated State Transitional Committee under the leadership of Alhaji Ali Bukar Wurge and the Registration Committee under the leadership of Peter Biya,” he stated.

The chairman called on party members and stakeholders to cooperate with the committees to ensure the smooth execution of their mandates.

He further disclosed that the party would commence its membership registration exercise next week, urging supporters to participate actively.

Bolori added that members should also take part in the ongoing voter registration process as part of preparations for future elections.
