Troops of the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued eight of the 10 persons abducted during a wedding ceremony in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State, on Wednesday.

A reliable Army source on Thursday said the gunmen, reportedly dressed in military camouflage, stormed the venue and forcibly took the victims.

The source said troops positioned along the Yankwada River swiftly moved to the scene after receiving the distress call and engaged the fleeing assailants at Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State.

Troops pursued the gunmen along the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis before losing contact.

“During the operation, eight of the abducted girls were rescued and have been reunited with their families,” the source said, adding that efforts to locate and recover the remaining two victims were ongoing.

Operations in the area continue to ensure the safe return of the remaining victims and to prevent further attacks, the source confirmed.
