Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Thursday dissolved the State Executive Council, bringing the tenure of all commissioners and special advisers to an end.
The governor expressed appreciation to members of the cabinet for their service to the state.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Onwuka Nzeshi, Fubara directed all affected officials to hand over to the permanent secretaries or the most senior officers in their respective ministries with immediate effect.
The development comes barely 48 hours after the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, spoke of ongoing reconciliation efforts to address the lingering political crisis in the state.
Wike had disclosed that President Bola Tinubu met with key political stakeholders from Rivers State, including Governor Fubara and his predecessor, as part of moves to resolve the protracted power tussle.
The meeting, which was held behind closed doors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, was also attended by other prominent leaders from the state.
Although the state government did not give reasons for the dissolution, the decision is seen as a significant move amid the continuing political realignments in the oil-rich state.
