Atiku’s aide tackles Fayose over threat to unveil details of Minna meeting

A media aide to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Paul Ibe, has lashed out at former Ekiti State governor, Peter Ayodele Fayose, following the latter’s threat to disclose additional information about a recent meeting between Atiku and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, in Minna.

Ibe, reacting via his verified X handle on Friday, dismissed Fayose’s comments as misplaced, accusing the former governor of wrongly attributing an earlier statement to him.

The Atiku aide maintained that the controversial statement which drew Fayose’s ire was not authored by him but by another member of the former Vice-President’s media team.

“I am not disappointed with one Peter Ayodele Fayose for his inability to differentiate between Ambassador Phrank Shaibu and my humble self,” Ibe wrote.

He explained that the statement titled ‘Peter Ayodele Fayose’s Beer Parlour Tales of Infamy’ was credited to Ambassador Phrank Shaibu and not to him, urging Fayose to have verified the authorship before reacting.

Ibe also took a swipe at Fayose’s 48-hour ultimatum, insinuating that the former governor might not have been in the proper frame of mind when he read the statement.

He mocked the timeline given by Fayose, questioning why such a duration was necessary and sarcastically urging him to respond sooner if he regained clarity before the stated deadline.

The exchange followed Fayose’s earlier warning that he would reveal more about the alleged Minna meeting involving Atiku and Makinde if the former Vice-President failed to publicly distance himself from the disputed statement issued by his media team.

In his own post on X, Fayose described Ibe’s reaction to his comments on the meeting as “amusing,” adding that out of respect for Atiku, he would assume the former Vice-President did not authorise the statement.

He, however, insisted that Atiku should cause a rebuttal to be issued within 48 hours or risk further disclosures.

Fayose warned that failure to disown the statement would compel him to make public additional details about the Minna meeting, including those he described as facilitators and key actors, as well as discussions allegedly bordering on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

“Till then, we keep our gunpowder dry,” the former governor added.
