Akure — The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a man impersonating a security operative and recovered a locally made firearm, live ammunition, and suspicious charms during a raid in Akure.

The suspect, identified as Adepoju Pelumi, 30, was intercepted on February 10, 2026, by officers of the Command Special Operations Squad (CSOS) at Onyerugbule Under Bridge.

He allegedly presented himself as a security personnel and was found with a forged identity card, prompting further investigation.

Following the initial interception, police obtained authorization to search Pelumi’s residence in the Igoba area of Akure. During the operation, officers recovered a single-barrel locally made gun, three live cartridges, and charms suspected to be linked to criminal activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Pelumi could not account for his possession of the firearm and other items.

He remains in police custody as authorities continue to probe potential criminal networks connected to him.

The suspect is expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the swift and professional response of the CSOS team, emphasizing that the operation reflects the Command’s zero-tolerance approach to impersonation, illegal firearm possession, and other criminal activities.

CP Lawal also lauded the support and leadership of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, which he said has strengthened crime-fighting efforts and proactive policing nationwide.

He reassured residents of Ondo State of the police’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urged the public to continue providing credible information to aid law enforcement efforts.
