The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has announced that the sexual assault allegation involving a TikTok content creator, Mirabel, popularly known as @mirab351, has been handed over to authorities in Ogun State for further investigation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the agency disclosed that it had reached out to a close associate of the survivor, who confirmed that she had been discharged from hospital following medical attention.
The case generated widespread reactions on social media after the young woman alleged that she was sexually assaulted in her apartment by an unidentified man.
The incident, said to have occurred on Sunday, February 15, was shared online the following day, sparking outrage and trending under the hashtag #StopRapingWomen on X, formerly known as Twitter.
According to the agency, the public response played a crucial role in facilitating contact and gathering useful information.
“Following our earlier communication and the significant public engagement, we were able to establish contact with a close friend of the survivor, who confirmed that she has since been discharged from hospital,” the statement read.
The agency commended members of the public who supplied relevant information through its direct channels and those who drew its attention to the matter to ensure prompt intervention.
However, the agency clarified that preliminary findings showed the alleged assault took place in Ogun State, placing the case outside its jurisdiction.
“We have confirmed that the incident occurred in Ogun State and is therefore beyond the jurisdiction of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency.
In line with inter-agency collaboration and in the interest of survivor protection, all pertinent information available to us has been forwarded to the appropriate authorities in Ogun State,” it stated.
The agency expressed confidence that the Ogun State Police Command is currently handling the investigation and urged full cooperation to ensure due process.
Reaffirming its commitment to supporting survivors of sexual and domestic violence, the agency encouraged victims and concerned residents to utilise its reporting channels for assistance.
