Former Big Brother Naija housemate, Natasha Akide, popularly known as Tacha, has condemned false rape allegations, warning that such claims undermine the plight of genuine victims.
In a video posted on her Instagram page on Thursday, Tacha reacted to the recent controversy involving TikTok user Mirabel, who reportedly confessed to fabricating a rape allegation.
Describing rape as a grave and sensitive matter, the reality TV star cautioned women against weaponising the issue for personal reasons.
According to her, false accusations diminish the credibility of authentic survivors and create room for scepticism whenever real cases are reported.
Tacha stressed that misleading claims not only harm the accused but also embolden those who dismiss or trivialise sexual assault cases.
She argued that individuals found culpable of making false allegations should face consequences to reflect the seriousness of the offence.
While acknowledging that mental health challenges could influence certain actions, she maintained that accountability remains essential.
The former reality show star reaffirmed that her stance does not invalidate the experiences of survivors, insisting that rape remains a pressing issue affecting many women.
She added that false claims inflict emotional and psychological strain on all parties involved and urged society to prioritise the protection and support of genuine victims.
