The Lagos State Police Command on Friday confirmed the arrest of officers allegedly linked to the fatal shooting of two residents in the AIT area of Alagbado.

Findings indicated that the incident occurred when a team of policemen reportedly chased suspected internet fraudsters, commonly referred to as “Yahoo boys,” within the neighbourhood.

In the course of the pursuit, gunshots were said to have been discharged, leading to the death of two passersby.

Spokesperson for the command, Abimbola Adebisi, who confirmed the development, disclosed that the officers involved had been taken into custody.

In a statement shared via her X handle on Friday, Adebisi described the incident as unfortunate and assured the public that necessary steps were being taken.

“The officers involved in the unfortunate shooting incident that occurred today (Friday) in Alagbado have been arrested and taken into custody,” she stated.

She added that the Commissioner of Police had directed a comprehensive and discreet investigation into the matter, alongside the strategic deployment of personnel to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the area.

According to her, calm has since been restored, while the command assured residents that justice would be pursued and the outcome of the investigation made public in due course.
