A 28-year-old commercial motorcyclist, Ayoade Ohiremen, has reportedly lost his life following a disagreement over the purchase of a motorcycle in Edo State.
The incident was said to have occurred in Ahor community along the Oluku Road bypass in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of Benin City.
Sources in the area disclosed that the deceased, who operated within the Ahor-Uzala axis of the Oluku-Benin-Auchi Road bypass, had accompanied other riders to secure a new motorcycle under a hire-purchase arrangement.
Trouble, however, reportedly began when some of his colleagues allegedly challenged his presence at the transaction venue, insisting he was not authorised to participate in the deal.
An argument was said to have erupted, escalating into violence.
In the ensuing chaos, Ohiremen was allegedly assaulted and beaten unconscious.
“He was severely beaten during the altercation and died at the scene,” a source familiar with the incident said.
The source further alleged that the assailants dragged the victim’s body to a nearby farm and abandoned it before fleeing.
Confirming the development, the Deputy Corps Commander (Operations) of the Edo State Security Corps, Richard Balogun, said one suspect, Bello Bawa, had been apprehended in connection with the killing.
Balogun explained that operatives of the corps responded swiftly after receiving information about the incident and tracked down those allegedly involved.
He added that the arrested suspect had been handed over to officers at the Ahor Police Division and was subsequently transferred to the homicide section of the Edo State Police Command for further investigation.
Authorities said efforts were ongoing to apprehend other suspects who remain at large.
