Bayelsa State has a new deputy governor following the nomination and approval of Pastor (Hon) Peter Pereotubo Akpe.
Governor Douye Diri announced the nomination of Akpe, who currently serves as Chief of Staff at the Government House, to fill the vacancy left by the late Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who passed away on December 11, 2025.
The Bayelsa State House of Assembly formally approved the nomination on Tuesday, bringing to an end months of speculation over who would assume the deputy governorship.
Akpe’s appointment is expected to stabilise the state’s executive council and ensure continuity in governance, with political observers describing the development as a crucial step in Bayelsa’s leadership transition.
