Suspected bandits on Saturday evening shot dead a commercial driver and whisked away eight passengers at Sabon-Kuruti junction in the Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The attack, which occurred around 4:12 p.m., was said to have targeted a vehicle travelling from Hayin-Dam to Katari.
A source familiar with the incident said the assailants opened fire on the moving vehicle, killing the driver, identified as Joshua Atara, on the spot before marching the passengers into a nearby bush.
“The vehicle was on its way to Katari when the gunmen intercepted it at Sabon-Kuruti junction. The driver was killed instantly, and about eight passengers were taken away,” the source disclosed.
A community leader in the area, who spoke on condition of anonymity for security reasons, also confirmed the incident, describing it as a disturbing development for residents of the locality.
Efforts to reach the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, Mansir Hassan, for official confirmation were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
