Six final-year nursing students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) lost their lives in a road accident on Sunday, the university’s elegant nurses forum has confirmed.

In a statement, Olabisi James, secretary of the forum, said the students were travelling on the Suleja-Abuja expressway to attend their semester examinations when the tragedy occurred.

“They were expected to resume face-to-face lectures today, Monday, February 23, 2026.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of the victims,” James said.

“We mourn this heartbreaking loss and pray that their souls rest in eternal peace. Our thoughts are with the entire LAUTECH community at this difficult time.”

The forum acknowledged the grief of the bereaved families and pledged solidarity with them, while commending emergency responders and medical personnel who attended to the crash.

James also called on road users to prioritise safety at all times, saying: “May the memories of the departed inspire us to cherish life and pursue our goals with renewed determination.”

As of Monday, LAUTECH had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.

Meanwhile, the tragedy has sparked an outpouring of condolences on social media. Nursing in Nigeria blog shared photos of the deceased on Facebook, while one user, @Zeezah221, wrote on X: “This is so sad. A journey for knowledge… ended in silence.
