A couple, Jamiu Olawale and his wife, abducted from their residence in Ilu Abo, Akure North Local Government Area, have regained their freedom after days in captivity.
The victims were reportedly seized by gunmen last Friday shortly after returning home from work. They were said to have spent four days in the kidnappers’ den before being released on Tuesday night.
A family member, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to security concerns, confirmed that the sum of N5m was paid to secure the couple’s release.
“Jamiu and his wife were freed on Tuesday night and have reunited with members of their family,” the source disclosed.
The relative further revealed that the abductors had initially demanded N40m as ransom. The demand was later reviewed downward to N12m before negotiations eventually settled at N5m.
The couple’s release has brought relief to residents of the community, who had expressed concern over rising cases of abduction in the area.
