A yet-to-be-identified person has lost his life while three others sustained serious injuries following a road accident at Aiyetoro Junction, along the traffic light corridor in Epe area of Lagos State.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed that the incident occurred on Sunday when a truck loaded with yam reportedly lost control and rammed into a stationary commercial tricycle.

In a statement released by the agency’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, preliminary investigations revealed that the truck, bearing registration number AGL 764 XB, was travelling from Ijebu-Ode and attempted to make a U-turn inward Eleko at the junction.

The driver was said to have lost control in the process, crashing into a tricycle with registration number SMK 127 QR.

The impact of the collision resulted in the death of one occupant, while three others suffered severe injuries.

Taofiq noted that LASTMA officials on routine traffic management duty swiftly intervened at the scene to manage the situation and prevent further chaos.

He added that personnel of the Federal Road Safety Corps, in collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service and military officers, worked together to rescue the injured victims from the wreckage.

According to him, officials of the FRSC evacuated the deceased and the injured to the General Hospital, Epe, for necessary medical attention, while security agencies ensured orderliness at the scene and facilitated the smooth restoration of vehicular movement.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, commiserated with the family of the deceased and prayed for the repose of the departed soul.

He also wished the injured victims quick recovery and urged security agencies to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, stressing that anyone found responsible should be made to face the full weight of the law.
