The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has restated his position that the senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, will not secure a return to the National Assembly in 2027, insisting she lacks tangible projects to present to voters.
Kingibe was elected into the Senate in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party.
Wike had, in 2024, predicted that the lawmaker would not be re-elected at the end of her current term, a stance he reaffirmed during a media chat in Abuja on Monday.
The minister linked his assertion to what he described as the senator’s failure to execute visible projects for residents of the capital city.
“I said it over a year ago — Senator Ireti will not return to the Senate.
“People dislike hearing the truth because it is often bitter. Let her point to a single project,” Wike declared.
The minister further alleged that the senator has been largely absent from satellite communities within the FCT, areas he noted play a decisive role during elections.
The renewed criticism comes amid a lingering rift between both political figures.
Kingibe had earlier accused the minister of ignoring her correspondence and failing to respond to concerns over worsening insecurity in Abuja.
She also alleged that residents of the FCT were grappling with acute water shortages and other infrastructural challenges, which she claimed reflected a lack of commitment to the welfare of the people.
However, Wike maintained that electoral success would ultimately depend on performance and visible impact on constituents.
