Tension gripped residents of Ikare Junction in Owo, Ondo State, on Sunday night after a man identified simply as Joseph was apprehended for allegedly being in possession of several female pants.
The suspect, whose full identity had yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report, was reportedly intercepted by youths in the area who claimed he was carrying a white nylon bag containing women’s underwear.
A video of the incident shared by a blogger, Oluwaseun Ogunmola, popularly known as Ogbeni OB Sugar, showed the man being questioned by residents over the items found in his possession.
In the footage, Joseph said he had travelled from Akoko to Owo in search of job opportunities.
He explained that he allegedly discovered the underwear at a location where he had gone to bathe.
The suspect further claimed that he had engaged in sexual intercourse with a mentally unstable woman, who, according to him, handed over the nylon bag containing the garments.
His explanations, however, failed to convince some youths in the neighbourhood, who confronted him over suspicions of possible involvement in ritual-related internet fraud, commonly referred to as “Yahoo Plus.” He denied any link to such activities.
The development sparked outrage in the area, with some aggrieved youths reportedly attempting to attack him before other residents intervened to prevent mob action.
It could not be immediately ascertained whether the suspect had been transferred to security agencies for further investigation as of press time.
