President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday officially swore in Olatunji Disu as the substantive Inspector-General of Police at the State House Council Chambers, Abuja.
The oath-taking ceremony, which began shortly after 2:50pm, followed the reading of Disu’s citation by the State House Director of Information and Public Relations, Abiodun Oladunjoye.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, cabinet members, and other dignitaries were in attendance.
Immediately after Disu’s swearing-in, President Tinubu also administered the oath to new commissioners of the Revenue Mobilisation Allocation and Fiscal Commission and the Federal Civil Service Commission, ahead of the Federal Executive Council meeting, which started at 3:01pm.
The Federal Civil Service Commission appointees included Prof. Ngbea Gabriel (Benue) and Omoregie Idahagbon (Edo), while RMAFC commissioners were Abubakar Wamakko (Sokoto), Sen. Marafa Abba (Taraba), Ahmed Waziri (Adamawa), Hadizatu Mustapha (Borno), Helen Bob (Bayelsa) and Oladele Gboyega (Osun).
Disu’s confirmation follows his unanimous approval by the Nigeria Police Council earlier in the week.
The ceremony took place shortly before the year’s first Federal Executive Council meeting, with top government officials in attendance, including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume; National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Police Affairs, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam; FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike; and Head of Service, Mrs Esther Walson-Jack.
During the Police Council meeting, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu praised Disu’s leadership of the Rapid Response Squad in Lagos between 2015 and 2021, while Nasarawa State Governor Abdullahi Sule and Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah also endorsed his appointment. FCT Minister Wike lauded his professionalism during his tenure as Assistant Commissioner of Police in Rivers State.
Disu, 59, who was appointed acting IGP following the resignation of Kayode Egbetokun on February 23, 2026, pledged to end impunity, enforce zero tolerance for corruption, and restore public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force, while President Tinubu charged him to strengthen discipline and improve inter-agency collaboration.
