The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has promised to deliver more developmental projects for the benefit of residents of Kuje Area Council.
Wike made the promise in Kuje on Thursday, while addressing stakeholders during a thank-you visit over the positive outcome of the February 21, 2026, FCT Area Council Elections.
The pledge followed a request by the council’s Chairman-elect, Mr Danjuma Shekwolo, for the minister to consider the execution of three key road projects in the area.
Wike, who acknowledged the request, promised that he would sit with the Chairman-elect and traditional leaders to decide which of the projects to begin with.
“Your elected chairman mentioned two or three road projects. Let me tell you, by the time your chairman is sworn-in by June, I will call him, call the traditional rulers and we will sit and agree which one we will begin with.
“I am very interested in Kuje and because the Kuje people have done it for us we will do it for you,” he said.
The Minister recalled how during a town hall meeting in 2023, the residents, through their leaders, appealed that the Airport Road to Kuje awarded by the previous administration should be completed.
He added that the residents also requested that the Tipper Garage to LEA Secretariat Road should be dualised.
“Today, we did not only award the tipper garage road contract, it has been completed and inaugurated and I have asked the contractor executing the Airport Road to Kuje road project to return to site.
“The contractor has assured us that the road will be part of the projects that Mr President will inaugurate to celebrate his third anniversary.
“Also, the Kuje-Gwagwalada road, which is about 16 to 17 kilometres long, is also going on very well, and we are praying to Almighty God that by June this year, Mr President will also inaugurate the road,” he said.
Wike thanked the traditional leaders and the good people of Kuje for speaking loudly during the council elections, adding that Tinubu had directed that such support should not be taken for granted.
“He asked that I should make sure we go back to all the area councils and tell the traditional leaders and all stakeholders in area councils that he appreciates you.
“That he asked you to vote for candidates who are supporting him and you did not hesitate, you voted for them and for that, he appreciates you,” he said.
He advised Shekwolo not to abandon his people but always be with them and seek advice from traditional leaders, women and the youths, stressing that consultation was very important.
The Minister also urged the residents to continue to support the Tinubu administration to turn things around in the country.
“I know that things might not be as we want but by the grace of God things are moving. We have not gotten to El Dorado yet, but I know with your kind support, we will get there,” he said.
Earlier, the Chairman-elect thanked Wike and Kuje residents for having faith in him and for trusting he would lead them well.
He promised to work with the FCT Minister under Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
He lauded the visible infrastructural development in the area which had eased the movement of people and urged Wike to consider three road projects, which if constructed, would help to grow the economy of the area.
Shekwolo identified the roads as Gwagwa to Kuje, Kuje to Rubochi, and Kuje to Kabi.
“Your Excellency, I know as a leader and as a father, you will do that for your son,” he said.
