Residents of Jalingo, Taraba State, were thrown into panic on Monday following another fire outbreak just hours after a separate incident earlier in the city.

The new blaze reportedly broke out around 2:08 p.m. at Baba Ya’u CBN Bypass, shortly after a similar fire was recorded in the Magami area of the state capital.

The Federal Fire Service (FFS), Taraba State Command, confirmed its prompt response to a distress call, mobilising personnel to the scene immediately.

In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, Sylvanus Mikailu, preliminary investigations indicated that the fire originated from bush burning in the vicinity, which spread into a residential compound.

The affected property was a three-bedroom apartment measuring approximately 50 by 100 feet, belonging to Alhaji ASK Mai Tulare, used for residential purposes.

According to the statement, the emergency response was triggered after ASFII Nurudeen Usman reported the incident, prompting swift deployment of firefighting personnel led by ASFII Solomon Bello.

“Upon arrival, the crew conducted a rapid assessment and launched an aggressive fire suppression operation, deploying one medium jet of water from Fire Appliance FFS 206, driven by FA Auwal Muhammad,” the statement noted.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported, and the quick action of the fire service prevented the blaze from spreading to neighbouring buildings.

Properties estimated at about ₦10 million were protected due to the timely intervention.

The FFS reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property through professional and efficient emergency response, urging residents to adopt preventive safety measures, including installing basic firefighting equipment in homes and business premises to curb fire incidents before authorities arrive.
