The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Jigawa State has arrested a 50-year-old scrap dealer, Muhd Adamu, for allegedly being in possession of 267 metres of stolen aluminium cable valued at about N573,300.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on Monday in Dutse, the state capital, by the Public Relations Officer of the corps in the state, ASC Badruddeen Tijjani Mahmud.
Mahmud said the suspect, a resident of Maruwa town in Kafin Hausa Local Government Area, was apprehended at his residence on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at about 3pm.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the cable was allegedly brought to Adamu’s house for safekeeping by two suspected accomplices identified as Sani and Auwalu, who are currently on the run.
He added that the suspect is presently in custody while efforts are ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
Mahmud recalled that the command had recently arrested several suspects linked to livestock rustling and vandalism of electricity facilities during operations aimed at ridding the state of criminal elements.
The state Commandant of the corps warned individuals involved in the destruction of critical national assets to desist or face the full wrath of the law.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around public infrastructure to security agencies.
The command reassured the public of its commitment to protecting critical national assets and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
Mahmud emphasised that the corps would continue to collaborate with other security agencies to curb vandalism and ensure offenders are prosecuted.
He added that the suspect would be charged with unlawful possession of vandalised electrical cables once investigations are concluded.
