Ikare-Akoko — The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapping ringleader, marking a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crimes in the state.

Police operatives apprehended Abdullahi Lawal, a resident of Aderoju Camp, Ugbe Akoko Town, who allegedly masterminded the abduction of Aremu Tijani on August 18, 2025, at the victim’s bush farm in the Ikare-Akoko area.

According to the police, following the initial kidnapping, security forces engaged the criminal gang in a tactical operation that resulted in the neutralization of three suspects and the arrest of four others. Lawal, however, escaped despite sustaining gunshot injuries.

The command said the suspect was immediately placed on an intelligence watchlist, prompting months of surveillance and discreet investigations. Lawal was eventually captured in Ikare-Akoko, and he has reportedly made confessional statements to authorities. He is now set to face court proceedings.

Ondo State Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal commended the professionalism and dedication of the officers involved, while urging residents to continue providing information to assist police operations.

The police reiterated their zero-tolerance stance on kidnapping and violent crimes, assuring the public that proactive measures remain in place to safeguard lives and property across the state.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through official security channels.
