The Nigeria Police Force, Nasarawa State Command, has arrested two suspects allegedly involved in the vandalism of electricity cables and poles in the Gitata area of Kokona Local Government Area.
The command said the activities of the suspects and other vandals had contributed significantly to recurring power outages in the area and other parts of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Lafia, the state capital.
According to him, the suspects were apprehended in the early hours of March 6, 2026, during a routine patrol by operatives attached to the Gitata Division.
Nansel said the patrol team intercepted the suspects at about 5:40 a.m. along the Gitata–Gunduma Road and arrested them for allegedly tampering with electricity infrastructure.
The suspects were identified as Chigozie Igbokwe, 41, and Emmanuel John, 45, both residents of Jikwoyi in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Items reportedly recovered from them include iron cutters, pliers, spanners, electric cables, and a grey Hyundai Sonata with registration number GWA 44 PM, which was allegedly used to transport the vandalised materials.
The police spokesperson added that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, had directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Lafia for further investigation and possible prosecution.
