Several residents are feared killed, while others remain unaccounted for, following a deadly attack by suspected herders on Ojantele community along the Abuja–Otukpo Road in Benue State.
It was gathered that the assailants stormed the community on Friday and reportedly opened fire on residents, leaving many people dead and others missing.
Sources in the area said more than 20 persons may have lost their lives in the assault, though the exact number of casualties had yet to be officially confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
The Chairman of Apa Local Government Area, Adams Ogwola, confirmed the incident on Friday afternoon but said authorities were still working to determine the actual number of victims.
Ogwola noted that details of the attack remained sketchy, adding that efforts were ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the casualties and the situation in the affected community.
