Authorities in Kebbi State have launched a probe into the killing of a 35-year-old businessman and the abduction of his wife in Birnin Kebbi.

The incident occurred early Friday in the Badariya area of the state capital. The victim, identified as Sufiyanu Garba, was reportedly attacked at his home by armed men.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said detectives were immediately dispatched to the scene. “The victim was rushed to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where a medical doctor confirmed his death. His remains have been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary,” he stated.

Usman added that the State Commissioner of Police has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted woman and bring the perpetrators to justice. He also urged residents to report any suspicious activity to facilitate prompt police action.

Zainab Mohammed Yauri, the victim’s wife, was reportedly taken away by the assailants. Her senior brother, Mohammed Yauri, told Channels Television that the gunmen stormed the house, shot Garba, and kidnapped his wife to an unknown location.

Garba was laid to rest later on Friday at the Birnin Kebbi main cemetery following Islamic rites.

The attack comes amid rising security concerns in the region, as recent violent incidents in neighbouring states have left several residents dead or injured.
