Popular pastor faces fraud, sexual misconduct allegations

An Ibadan-based cleric, Kayode Amusan, popularly known as Agbala Gabriel, has come under fire following allegations of sexual misconduct and the alleged mismanagement of donations meant for individuals battling health challenges.

For several years, the cleric built a strong online following, presenting himself as a compassionate pastor whose ministry mobilised support for the sick and vulnerable.

Videos showing him praying for struggling families and soliciting financial assistance for those in need frequently circulated on social media, earning him praise from many Nigerians who viewed his ministry as devoted to humanitarian causes.

However, his reputation has recently been thrown into controversy as a series of allegations circulating on Facebook, TikTok and Instagram sparked intense debate online.

The accusations centre on claims linked to a medical fundraising campaign for an ailing woman and allegations that he fathered twins with a former backup singer in his church.

One of the controversies, Saturday PUNCH learnt, involves a woman identified as Morenikeji, who reportedly suffers from a spinal condition and whose treatment had earlier attracted public donations.

In a viral video, Nollywood actress Foluke Daramola spoke about the case, explaining that she had previously assisted in raising funds for the woman’s surgery.

Daramola, however, alleged that she withdrew her involvement after learning that the patient’s family later sought assistance from the cleric.

“I initially raised some money for the woman’s surgery, but it was not enough. When the family eventually took her to Agbala Gabriel, I stepped back,” she said.

She further claimed that the cleric later abandoned the family and failed to fulfil promises regarding accommodation and support for the surgery.

In the same video, the patient’s daughter also alleged that she eventually removed her mother from the cleric’s care due to concerns about the handling of the situation.

While the controversy continued to gain traction online, another allegation surfaced.

A blogger known as Iyalaje Courtroom alleged during a live broadcast that the cleric was involved in mismanaging donations and maintaining inappropriate relationships with women.

According to the blogger, one of the women, identified as Bolu, was a former backup singer in the church who allegedly became pregnant for the cleric and later gave birth to twins.

“She was around 23 years old when the relationship started and she is now 25,” the blogger claimed during the broadcast.

She further alleged that the cleric initially denied responsibility for the pregnancy but later accepted it after facing pressure and subsequently rented an apartment for the woman and the twins.

The claim was also supported by a charity advocate, Princess Adeyinka, who alleged that she intervened when the issue first came to light.

She said the cleric initially denied the allegation before eventually acknowledging responsibility for the children.

As the claims continue to spread across social media platforms, reactions have remained divided, with some supporters defending the cleric’s years of charitable activities while critics called for greater accountability and transparency.

Reacting to the allegations, the cleric denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the accusations were part of attempts to discredit him.

“This is how they try to pull down ministers of God. Many ministers who become popular face these kinds of accusations. You see respected men of God like Pastor Adeboye and others being dragged on social media daily. These are just false allegations being spread online,” he said.
