An Area Court sitting in Jos on Monday ordered the imprisonment of a 19-year-old, Felix Obed, for unlawfully entering a residence and stealing a door valued at N10,000.
The presiding judge, Irene Pati, handed down an 18-month jail term after the defendant admitted guilt to the charges of criminal trespass and theft.
The court, however, provided the convict with an option of a N30,000 fine for the theft offence, while the six-month sentence for trespass carries a fine option of N20,000.
Pati directed that both sentences should run at the same time.
Earlier during proceedings, the prosecutor, Ijuptil Daniel, told the court that the case was brought before the police at the ‘A’ Division Police Station on February 28 by the complainant, George Zugumnan.
Daniel explained that the defendant unlawfully entered Zugumnan’s house and removed a door valued at N10,000.
He added that the accused confessed to the crime while being questioned by investigators.
According to the prosecutor, the offences violate provisions of the Plateau State Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, 2017.
The report was provided by the News Agency of Nigeria.
