The Abia State Police Command has apprehended a butcher accused of stabbing a customer in the neck with a pair of scissors during an argument over the cost of meat in Umuahia, the Abia State capital.

The incident was said to have occurred at Orie Ugba Market.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Maureen Chinaka, disclosed the development in a statement on Monday, noting that officers from the Central Police Station responded to the scene after the matter was reported.

She explained that the injured customer was immediately taken to a hospital for medical care and is currently recovering.

Chinaka said the command was aware of the incident which took place on March 14, 2026, at the market, where a disagreement over the price of meat reportedly led to the attack.

According to her, the suspect has been taken into police custody while investigations are ongoing.

She added that the suspect would be prosecuted after the investigation is concluded.
