Suspected kidnapper arrested as Police recover AK-47
The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered firearms during an operation in Keana Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest followed a raid on a hideout believed to be used by a notorious kidnapping gang at Gidan Akuya Village.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the operation was carried out after officers of the State Intelligence Department acted on credible intelligence.
Nansel explained that the suspects attempted to escape upon sighting the operatives but were immediately chased by the police, leading to the arrest of one of them.
“During the operation, one suspect identified as Jibril Yunusa, 43, was apprehended. A search conducted at the hideout resulted in the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one empty magazine and a locally fabricated rifle,” he said.
The police spokesman added that the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to involvement in several kidnapping operations around the Keana and Awe areas of the state and had provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Jauro Mohammed, has directed operatives to intensify efforts to track down other members of the gang who escaped during the raid.
The statement added that the police commissioner commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
