The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended two suspected armed robbers and recovered a toy gun during a routine stop-and-search exercise in Akure.

The suspects, identified as Simeon George and Moses Daniel, were arrested in the early hours of March 15, 2026, in the Oba-Ile area of the state.

In a statement released on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the arrest was made by operatives of the command working alongside members of a local vigilante group.

He disclosed that a toy gun and a headlamp were found in the suspects’ possession, concealed inside a bag during the operation.

According to the police, the suspects were unable to provide a convincing explanation regarding the items recovered and their movements, which heightened suspicion among the operatives.

The spokesperson said the duo had since been taken into custody, while the recovered items were kept as exhibits.

He added that the matter had been transferred to the appropriate investigative unit for further inquiry to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident and determine any possible criminal links.

Jimoh stated that the suspects would be prosecuted upon the conclusion of investigations.

The command reaffirmed its resolve to curb criminal activities through intelligence-led policing, patrols and stop-and-search operations across the state.

It also appealed to residents to continue to assist law enforcement agencies with useful information to enhance security.
