BUK expels 171 students over fake admission document

The Senate of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has expelled 171 students for presenting falsified credentials during their admission process, in a move aimed at sanitising the institution’s academic records.

The decision was reached at the university’s 433rd Senate meeting on March 4, 2026, following an investigation by the Senate Committee on Entry Qualification Irregularities.

A statement in BUK’s weekly bulletin on Friday confirmed the expulsions.

“The Senate of Bayero University, Kano, at its 433rd meeting, has approved the expulsion of 171 students for falsifying their admission entry qualifications,” the bulletin read.

The university said the students, drawn from various departments and levels, violated Section 20.7, Category A (vii) of its General Examinations and Academic Regulations, which prescribes expulsion for such offences.

In a separate decision, the Senate also expelled Yusuf Muhammad Sani, a Civil Engineering student, for allegedly assaulting invigilators during an examination, an act that disrupted the conduct of the paper and breached BUK’s disciplinary rules.

BUK management reiterated its commitment to maintaining academic integrity, warning that violations of its regulations would continue to attract severe sanctions.

“This mass expulsion serves as a stern warning to both current and prospective students that BUK enforces a zero-tolerance policy toward academic fraud and indiscipline,” the statement added.
