Operatives of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service have rescued a man armed with a knife from a deep well in the Owutu area of Ikorodu.
The Controller General of the agency, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed that the incident was reported around 7am on Sunday.
She said emergency responders from the Ikorodu Fire Station arrived at the scene to find the man inside the well, holding a knife and resisting attempts to rescue him.
According to her, the situation required a careful approach as the victim exhibited erratic behaviour and made evasive moves during the operation.
Adeseye added that officers from the Nigeria Police Force, Owutu Division, provided support to ensure the safe extraction of the individual.
It was gathered that the man was eventually brought out of the well alive without further incident.
In a related development, the agency also responded to two separate fire outbreaks earlier in the day.
One of the incidents occurred at an abandoned warehouse in Ikeja, where firefighters had to force entry into a locked facility to contain the blaze. No casualties were recorded.
Another fire was reported at a power installation in Surulere, caused by a faulty lightning arrestor.
The situation was swiftly brought under control without any loss of life.
