Several persons are feared dead following a suspected bomb explosion that struck Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday.
The incident, believed to have involved an improvised explosive device, threw the community into panic, with residents linking the attack to suspected terrorists, although no group has officially claimed responsibility.
The latest development comes weeks after a similar wave of violence in the area.
Residents recalled that no fewer than 75 people were killed and several homes razed when suspected terrorists launched coordinated attacks on Woro and neighbouring Nuku communities.
In response to the earlier assault, President Bola Tinubu had directed the deployment of a military battalion to the troubled area to restore order and prevent further attacks.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities were yet to issue an official statement on Monday’s explosion.
Efforts to reach the Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, for comments proved abortive as calls and messages were not responded to.
