A 20-year-old man, Segun Ajie, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for alleged shopbreaking and stealing in parts of Lagos State.

Ajie is facing a six-count charge bordering on unlawful entry and theft but pleaded not guilty to the allegations.

The prosecutor, ASP Adegoke Ademigbuji, told the court that the offences were committed on November 20, 2025, at different locations within Dalemo, Alakuko, under the Ikeja Magisterial District.

According to the prosecution, the defendant allegedly broke into a shop belonging to one Mariam Adeyemi at about 1:30 p.m. on Ayinla Adejobi Street with intent to steal, making away with an Infinix Smart 5 phone valued at N150,000.

Ademigbuji further alleged that the defendant, on the same day, unlawfully entered another shop on Olanukan Street owned by one Amosun Paulina, where he reportedly stole an Itel Android phone valued at N60,000.

In another count, the prosecutor said Ajie also broke into a shop belonging to one Omowunmi Wasiu located at No. 1, Alaba Taiwo Street, off Yusuf Road, Kola, Alagbado.

He was accused of carting away an Apple iPhone 6 valued at N60,000, an Apple wristwatch worth N110,000, and a cash sum of N25,000.

The alleged offences, according to the prosecutor, contravene Sections 280, 287 and 308(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Magistrate Omolara Kushanu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was subsequently adjourned till April 4 for hearing.

Under the law, the offence of stealing attracts a maximum penalty of three years’ imprisonment.
