The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a car theft syndicate and recovered a stolen Toyota Camry in Akure, the state capital.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, Abayomi Jimoh.

According to the police, the breakthrough followed a complaint lodged on February 27, 2026, by one Adeyemi Robert, who reported that his Toyota Camry with registration number AH173WWD was stolen on February 14 while he attended a social event on Sijuade Street in Akure.

The victim reportedly parked the vehicle in front of the event venue but discovered it missing upon his return.

Following the report, detectives were said to have launched an investigation, deploying intelligence and other strategies to track the vehicle and those behind the theft.

The police stated that their efforts led to the recovery of the car from one Awolo Akingbade, 40, who was found in possession of the vehicle and subsequently taken in for questioning.

Further investigations, according to the statement, revealed that the vehicle had been sold to Akingbade by the principal suspect, identified as Adeyemi David, who was later apprehended.

Preliminary findings indicated that the suspect allegedly stole the vehicle and sold it to the buyer.

The recovered vehicle has been taken into police custody as an exhibit, while both suspects have reportedly provided useful information to assist ongoing investigations.

The police added that the suspects have been charged to court following the conclusion of investigations.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Adebowale Lawal, commended the operatives for their professionalism and diligence, which led to the successful recovery of the vehicle and the arrest of the suspects.

He reiterated the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state, warning criminal elements to desist or face the full weight of the law.

Lawal also urged residents to remain vigilant and support the police with credible information to aid crime prevention efforts.
