Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have rescued a 27-year-old woman abducted along the Ibusa/Ogwashi-Uku forest axis, even as they arrested a suspected armed robber in a separate operation.
The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday in Warri.
Edafe said the victim, whose identity was not disclosed, is a resident of Ibusa in Oshimili North Local Government Area of the state.
He explained that the police acted on credible intelligence indicating that the woman had been kidnapped and held at a building site near the Obosi River along the Ibusa/Ogwashi-Uku Road on March 12, 2026.
According to him, following the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, directed the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cyber-Crime Squad to ensure the victim’s safe rescue and track down the perpetrators.
He stated that operatives, led by the squad commander, stormed the kidnappers’ hideout on March 19, 2026, at about 3:00 p.m.
“On sighting the operatives, the suspects engaged them in a gun duel, but the police responded with superior firepower, forcing the kidnappers to flee and abandon the victim,” the statement read.
The rescued woman was subsequently taken to a general hospital for treatment, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
In another development, the police arrested a suspected armed robber following a distress call received at the Owa-Oyibu Division on March 18, 2026.
Edafe said the report indicated that at about 7:45 a.m., a man identified as Sunday Blessing, alongside two accomplices, allegedly robbed a Point-of-Sale operator of N600,000 at gunpoint along Diffrey Road near Ebu Owa Market.
He added that police operatives were immediately mobilised to the scene, leading to the arrest of the suspect, while others escaped.
A locally fabricated Beretta pistol was recovered from the suspect, who is currently in custody as investigations continue.
