The Ondo State Police Command has arrested two men for conspiracy and attempted child abduction in Ogbagi Akoko, thanks to the quick response of community members.

According to the police, the incident occurred on March 22, 2026, when Mrs. Olanireti F., a resident of Ioso Street, reported that her three-year-old son, Alex Ayobami, was being targeted by unknown assailants.

The child was reportedly sent to visit his grandmother behind her shop when a passerby, identified as Oni F., noticed suspicious activity and raised the alarm.

Acting swiftly, Mrs. Olanireti rushed to the scene and discovered the suspects, Adefarati Idowu and Adepoju Babatunde, attempting to flee on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle with her child.

The toddler’s grandmother courageously intervened by holding onto the motorcycle, while other vigilant residents blocked the suspects’ escape until the police arrived. The child was rescued unharmed.

The suspects were immediately apprehended and transferred to the police headquarters for further investigation.

The Command has vowed to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the case, including any possible criminal networks linked to the suspects.

Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, commended the bravery and prompt action of the community, emphasizing that such vigilance is key to effective policing.

He also urged parents and guardians to remain watchful over their children and encouraged the public to report suspicious activity to security agencies.

CP Lawal further expressed gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his continued support and leadership, noting that community-focused policing has significantly strengthened the state command’s operations.

The Ondo State Police Command reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state and vowed to intensify efforts to combat all forms of criminal activity.
