The Anambra State Police Command has arraigned an apprentice and an accomplice for the alleged murder of their employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, and the theft of millions of naira from his account.

The prime suspect, 21-year-old Chiemerie Anieke, reportedly killed Nwite with a pestle on February 16, 2026, at Fegge, Onitsha, following a confrontation over alleged theft of money and drug abuse.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department arraigned the suspects before the High Court in Onitsha on March 18, 2026.

“Operatives of the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Anambra State Police Command successfully arraigned two suspects in connection with the murder of Ikechukwu Simon Nwite and the subsequent theft of his funds,” the statement read.

SP Ikenga identified the second defendant as 21-year-old Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, who allegedly assisted by providing a bank account used to transfer over N8 million belonging to the deceased.

“The prime suspect, Chiemerie Anieke, struck his employer on the head with a pestle, causing his death.

He was arraigned alongside Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, who allegedly facilitated the transfer of over N8 million through a bank account,” the statement added.

The police said N6 million was recovered from the suspects and has been submitted as evidence in court.

The suspects have been remanded in a correctional facility pending further court proceedings.

The command reiterated its resolve to uphold justice and warned that anyone engaging in criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.
