BREAKING: Kwankwaso defects to ADC

A former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has formally joined the African Democratic Congress, marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s political landscape.

Kwankwaso, a former governor of Kano State and ex-Minister of Defence, was officially registered as a member of the ADC on Monday. He received his membership card at Gidan Kwankwasiyya along Miller Road in the Bompai area of Kano.

The event drew the presence of several prominent political figures, including the ADC National Chairman and former Senate President, David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal; former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi; and former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi. Others in attendance were Senator Dino Melaye and former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, John Odigie-Oyegun, among others.

The development follows Kwankwaso’s announcement on Sunday of his resignation from the NNPP, a move he said was driven by the need for political realignment.

In a statement, the former governor confirmed his immediate exit from the party, describing the decision as a difficult one given his longstanding association with the NNPP.

He, however, explained that prevailing political dynamics in the country necessitated a strategic repositioning.

Kwankwaso noted that aligning with a new platform had become essential in his quest to contribute meaningfully to national development and governance.

He expressed appreciation to the leadership of the NNPP, particularly its National Chairman, Ajuji Ahmed, as well as other party organs, for their support during his time in the party.

The former governor also commended members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and his supporters for their loyalty, assuring them of continued collaboration in pursuit of a more prosperous Nigeria.
