Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested two suspects in Ilorin, Kwara State, over an alleged job scam said to involve more than N2.9m.
The suspects, Bolaji Kazeem Akinwunmi, also known as “Bolaji Original,” and Kemisola Mary Akinbo, described as his accomplice and former lover, were apprehended by officers of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the commission.
In a statement released on Tuesday via its X handle, the EFCC alleged that Akinwunmi fraudulently collected a total of N2,921,700 from job seekers on the promise of securing employment for them.
The agency said investigations indicated that the suspect allegedly posed as a personnel of the Nigeria Customs Service and the Nigeria Immigration Service at different times, claiming he had access to job slots for prospective applicants.
The commission, however, did not state the number of victims involved, noting that investigations into the matter were ongoing.
Meanwhile, the EFCC disclosed that the arrest followed closely after another operation by its Ilorin Zonal Directorate, which led to the apprehension of Kofoworola Kolawole over an alleged fraud amounting to N993,247,796.70.
The anti-graft agency alleged that Kolawole, a company representative, conspired with two directors to obtain the funds under the pretext of facilitating a foreign exchange transaction.
