The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a man, Oluwadamilare Ewedemi, following allegations of prolonged abuse involving his daughter, authorities confirmed on Monday.
The arrest came after a complaint was filed by the 21-year-old at the Ifo Divisional Police Headquarters, prompting an immediate investigation into the disturbing claims.
Police sources disclosed that the alleged incidents date back to 2019 when the suspect took custody of the victim from a care facility in Ikeja, Lagos, and relocated her to Ijebu Ode under the guise of parental responsibility.
The survivor, whose identity is being protected, told investigators that she had been under her father’s care since then and endured repeated mistreatment over several years.
She alleged that the situation resulted in multiple pregnancies, which were subsequently terminated.
Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, said operatives acted swiftly on the report, leading to the suspect’s arrest.
She added that the victim had earlier fled the residence due to persistent distress and later sought shelter in a religious centre in the Pakoto area.
“The complainant reported a prolonged period of abuse by her biological father.
The matter is currently under investigation, and the suspect is in custody,” Odutola said.
The police spokesperson noted that the case had been transferred to the Gender Unit for thorough investigation and possible prosecution.
The incident has drawn public concern, with stakeholders calling for stronger safeguards for vulnerable individuals and swift justice in the case.
