A 17-year-old boy, Ishaku Idriss, has died from injuries sustained during a violent clash among youths at a wedding ceremony in Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State.
The incident, which occurred on March 31 around 1pm, reportedly involved rival youths from Dagare and Yabel communities and degenerated into a physical confrontation.
According to a counterinsurgency analyst, Zagazola Makama, the crisis erupted following a dispute that escalated rapidly into violence.
Sources indicated that the altercation began after a 16-year-old boy, Adamu Suleh, allegedly struck Idriss with a stick after being provoked by one Shuaibu Yusuf.
The situation reportedly worsened as the victim attempted to retaliate, leading to further attacks during the melee.
In the course of the clash, another teenager, identified as Usman Inusa, was said to have hit Idriss on the head, leaving him critically injured.
The victim was initially rushed to the State Specialist Hospital in Potiskum before he was later referred to the Yobe State University Teaching Hospital for advanced treatment.
He, however, succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of April 4, 2026.
Police sources disclosed that the case was reported at the Potiskum Police Division by the village head of Jumma’a Bogocho, Ahmadu Yusuf.
Security operatives have since arrested suspects linked to the incident, while investigations are ongoing to unravel the full circumstances surrounding the deadly clash.
