Tragedy struck in Akure, the Ondo State capital, as suspected kidnappers shot dead a woman and her daughter during a violent attack, heightening concerns over insecurity in the area.

The victims were reportedly killed by gunmen at Igushin via Ala, in an incident that has sparked fear among residents, even as the police confirmed the rescue of two other victims.

Confirming the development, the Ondo State Police Command described the attack as gruesome and unacceptable, noting that it resulted in the loss of two innocent lives.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Abayomi Jimoh, said the command had launched a coordinated operation which led to the rescue of two kidnapped victims.

“The Ondo State Police Command condemns in strong terms the violent incident at Igushin via Ala, Akure, which led to the tragic loss of two lives,” he said.

“While two victims were successfully rescued through a swift and coordinated operation, we deeply regret the unfortunate deaths recorded.”

Jimoh assured residents that security had been reinforced in the area to prevent further attacks, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down those responsible.

“The command has put necessary measures in place to safeguard lives and property. We are intensifying efforts to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure they face justice,” he added.

He also urged members of the public to remain alert and support security agencies with credible information that could aid ongoing investigations.

The incident has further underscored growing fears over kidnapping and violent crimes in parts of the state, with residents calling for increased security presence to curb the menace.
