Gunmen have abducted a woman, Adetutu Aderibigbe, after trailing her to her residence in the Bolumole area off Ring Road in Ibadan.
The Oyo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday, clarifying that the victim was seized at her home, contrary to earlier reports suggesting she was kidnapped on the road.
According to the command’s spokesman, Ayanlade Olayinka, preliminary findings showed that the incident occurred around 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday when the assailants, numbering four and wearing masks, followed the victim to her residence.
He explained that the gunmen ambushed Aderibigbe at the gate while she was attempting to enter her premises and forcibly whisked her away at gunpoint in an unregistered black Lexus vehicle.
Olayinka noted that a qqfamily member present at the scene was left unharmed during the attack.
“The command is aware of reports circulating in the media regarding the alleged kidnapping. However, investigations indicate that the attackers trailed the victim to her residence and abducted her at the gate, not on the road as earlier claimed,” he said.
Following the report, police detectives and tactical units were immediately deployed to the scene to commence investigations.
The spokesman added that forensic teams had combed the area and recovered vital evidence to aid ongoing efforts, while surveillance and intelligence operations had been intensified to track down the suspects and secure the victim’s release.
He assured that all necessary resources had been mobilised to rescue the victim and apprehend those responsible, urging members of the public to remain calm and provide credible information that could assist the investigation.
