A potential disaster was narrowly avoided in the early hours of Friday after a tanker laden with industrial chemicals overturned in the Daleko axis of Mushin area of Lagos State, spilling part of its hazardous content on the road.
The incident, which occurred around 3:00 a.m. in the Daleko area of Mushin, involved a white Volvo tanker that reportedly lost balance and fell, prompting an emergency response from relevant agencies.
There were no casualties recorded in the crash, which sources said could have escalated into a major environmental and safety crisis given the nature of the chemical cargo.
In a statement shared via its official X handle, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority confirmed that its operatives, in collaboration with firefighters from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, were swiftly deployed to the scene to contain the situation and secure the area.
The agency added that arrangements were being made for an empty tanker to carry out a safe transloading of the remaining chemicals to prevent further spillage and environmental hazard.
In a separate incident on Friday morning, another articulated Mack truck reportedly crashed into the median along Ijaye Road by Odo Eran, inward Ogba axis of Lagos State.
The accident, which involved no other vehicle, was said not to have caused any obstruction to traffic flow in the area, as normal movement reportedly continued despite the impact.
