A member of the House of Representatives, Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, is dead.
As reported by Eagle Online, Hassan, who represented Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State, reportedly died on Friday evening after a prolonged illness.
The House spokesman, Akin Rotimi, confirmed the development in a statement, describing the late lawmaker’s death as a major loss.
He said the 66-year-old legislator was elected in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party and served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary.
“His passing is a profound loss to the House of Representatives, his constituents, and the nation at large,” Rotimi said.
He noted that Hassan was a seasoned legislative expert whose contributions shaped several laws and strengthened constitutional processes in the country.
According to him, the deceased had a distinguished career in the National Assembly bureaucracy, rising to the position of Permanent Secretary before venturing into politics.
Rotimi added that Hassan brought vast administrative experience and institutional knowledge to parliamentary proceedings.
“He distinguished himself as a diligent and reflective legislator, contributing significantly to legislative debates and committee work,” he said.
The House spokesman also highlighted his roles in committees such as Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Constitution Review, and Treaties and Agreements.
Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, commiserated with the family, Kano State Government, and the deceased’s constituents, noting that he would be buried in accordance with Islamic rites on Saturday.
