Suspected kidnappers have abducted a young woman, Adetutu Aderibigbe, in Ibadan, Oyo State, in an attack that has further heightened fears over rising insecurity in the city.
The victim was reportedly seized on Wednesday evening at about 6:00 p.m. in front of her residence in the Bolumole area, off Ring Road, by a gang of four armed men.
Eyewitness accounts indicated that the assailants, who wore masks, accosted the woman as she attempted to gain entry into her home and forcefully whisked her away in a black Lexus jeep without a registration number.
Sources said the operation was swift, leaving residents in shock as the gunmen escaped unchallenged.
As of Friday, the whereabouts of the abducted woman remained unknown, with family members said to be anxiously awaiting updates on her fate.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Olayinka Ayanlade, said preliminary findings showed the attack occurred on April 8, 2026, at about 1800 hours.
He stated that the victim was taken at the gate of her residence by armed men who arrived in an unregistered vehicle, adding that a relative present at the scene was not harmed during the operation.
Ayanlade assured that security operatives had commenced efforts to track down the kidnappers and secure the victim’s release.
The incident has sparked fresh concerns among residents, who are calling on law enforcement agencies to intensify patrols and intelligence gathering to curb the growing menace of abduction in the state.
