The Nigerian Navy has arrested its personnel involved in a public clash with soldiers in Bayelsa State during the visit of President Bola Tinubu on Friday.
The altercation, which occurred as the President departed an official engagement, has sparked outrage after a video of the incident circulated widely on social media.
The footage captured a tense exchange between uniformed officers, beginning with an argument involving a Naval Police driver and another military personnel.
In the clip, the Naval Police operative was seen stepping out of a Hilux vehicle before engaging in a verbal confrontation.
The situation escalated moments later when a soldier approached and struck the naval officer, triggering a violent scuffle.
What followed was a chaotic exchange, as personnel from both sides engaged in a physical fight in full public view, drawing reactions from shocked bystanders.
The cause of the confrontation remained unclear as of the time of filing this report.
Confirming the development on Saturday, the Director of Naval Information, Commodore Abi Folorunso, said those involved had been taken into custody.
“The affected personnel are in custody and already undergoing appropriate administrative and disciplinary procedures in line with military regulations,” he said.
